Brews a very good cup. Easy to use. Only thing that I didn't like was the size of it, very monolithic.

I give this coffee maker a 5 star rating for design, quality of materials, and function. I take away 3 stars for their poor idea of a warranty. This company not only requires that you pay for your own shipping under warranty, they also charge you a "shipping and handling" fee to repair and return. Compared to other high end products, see "Kitchen" for example, this is a really crappy deal. Most cover all shipping charges. I have never seen one from a reputable company that sticks you both ways.

This is the last product I will get from these people.

I PURCHASED THIS Cuisinart 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO FROM CHEFS INC AND AFTER ALMOST CONTINUAL USAGE( I OWN A SMALL CATERING/EVENTS BUSINESS) AND OVER 8 YEARS IT FINALLY BROKE. SINCE THEN I HAVE TRIED OTHER CHEAPER BRANDS AND THEY ONLY LAST A FEW MONTHS. I LIKE THE GOLD PLATED CONE FILTER, THE WATER FILTER(THAT'S INCLUDED) AND THE 3 STAGE TEMPERATURE SETTING THAT THIS CUISINART COFFEEMAKER OFFERS. I RECENTLY FOUND THIS ONE ON AMAZON AT A GOOD PRICE AND DECIDED TO BUY ANOTHER ONE ...SOMETIMES QUALITY PRODUCTS DO NOT CHANGE OVER TIME, FOR I HOPE TO GET GREAT TASTING COFFEE FOR ANOTHER 8 YEARS WITH THIS Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker. TAKE MY ADVICE AND SPEND A LITTLE MORE ON THIS PRODUCT AND YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.
***BTW... THE WATER FILTER GIVES COFFEE A BETTER TASTE!
No More Burnt Coffee - Review written on November 23, 2008

Rating: 5 out of 5

I always enjoy numerous cups of coffee in the morning. The problem I have encountered over the years is that if I left my coffee in the coffee maker carafe after a couple cups, my coffee tasted horrible because it burned. My solution was to make the coffee and pour it into an insulated carafe.

Finally with the Cuisinart DCC-1200 I no longer need to do this extra step. I can make a pot and leave the coffee where it was made for up to 2.5 hours and still have a great last cup!

The pros: makes good coffee, easy pouring carafe, looks attractive.

The cons: clock broke almost immediately after purchase, started leaking water after 18 months.

Conclusion: it does the job, but not for very long.
Keeps getting clogged - Review written on November 20, 2008

We have purchased this coffee maker three times now. The first time it clogged it was our fault because someone over filled the coffee with very fine grounds and the mess was just too big to clean up. The second time it clogged was just a few months after we had purchased our second machine. This time we returned it thinking there was a problem with the machine. We are now tossing out our third machine. This device does make a good cup of coffee, however, it's design seems flawed. We followed all cleaning/care instructions and were careful about not using fine grounds and the darn thing still clogged. This time, btw, it clogged after a recent clean. Worked fine, then I cleaned it and now it just makes lots of noise and steam. UGH! Wont be buying a forth machine.

One more thing, all three never allowed us to take the pot out before the brewing process was complete...always dripped.

I just recently purchased the model. I therefore can't attest to its longevity/reliability. It appears to be at the top of what I have had or is out there but I have not owned. All coffeemakers seem to have flaws but most can be overcomed. This makes excellent coffee and that is what matters. Who cares about the cup thingy in the water container- you fill the pot and it tells you the number of cups. The water holder seems no worst others but the fact that the pot pours without spilling makes the small opening a no issue. I don't use most features as I prefer making my coffee when I want a cup. I never set the auto brew as I don't trust most electrical appliances that might cause a fire. This is surely the best coffeemaker, for the money, on the market. Just don't worry about some of the minor complaints because other coffeemakers do not even come close to this one.
Cuisinart DCC-1200, fairly typical for Cuisinart - Review written on November 15, 2008

Our Cuisinart DCC-1200 lasted less that 2 years. Like many Cuisinart products, it's pretty badly underdesigned. The water load is very narrow and back right--tough for lefties and easy to spill over even for righties. The parts are expensive--especially that charcoal filter you have to replace every 2 months. Don't try brewing without it--even with the filter in place, ONE piece of coffee grounds in the heating plenum below the water tank and you might as well throw it all away. The assembly is done with rivets instead of screws so there is no way to get at the lower plenum to clean it properly--again, fairly typical Cuisinart planned obsolesence design. It's a French hunk of junk if you ask me. My $20 Mr Coffee brewed great coffee for almost 10 years before it died. I'll not buy Cuisinart again.
Leaks water all over the counter - Review written on November 15, 2008

I have had this product for about a year. About 6 months ago it started leaking water out of the bottom of the coffee maker. My wife loves the way it looks. It makes excellent coffee. I especially like the adjustable temperature control on the burner. However, I would not recommend buying this machine because of the water leaking problem.

This cofee-maker has served me well; but before buying it I read lots of comments regarding condensation from the lid splashing all over the counter when you flip the lid to dump the grinds. This happens when you don't vent the condensation from the inner compartment. To prevent that from happening-when your coffee is done brewing and you hear the beep letting you know it's done; lift the lid only about 2 inches and let go; this releases the lid on a hatch and will hold the lid slightly to allow the condensation to run down the underside of the lid and into the slope that leads back into the reservoir, preventing it from getting everywhere. Then, and don't ask me how this happens, the lid releases all on it's own. I've been trying to figure out how the lid knows when to close; I'll just assume it's done using a little bit of magic, so as to prevent any kind of blow to my ego...
Not happy - will return this - Review written on November 09, 2008

This is the first review that I have written. This coffee maker has several faults. 1. the caraf lid is a terrible design 2. coffee leaks out on to the heat plate when removing the caraf partway through brewing (this is variable and I can't figure that out) 3. the controls are not user friendly.
For the money I think this is not worth it. I will be returning and buying a lesser expensive unit.

Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker
I bought this coffee maker in white. I have a small kitchen and it kind of brightens up my countertop, which is nice. More important though, this coffeemaker is easy to set up and operate, and it makes coffee that is just the right strength. Best of all the coffee comes out perfectly hot (but not "overcooked") and it stays nice and hot in your cup until the last sip, even with cold milk or cream added! With my previous coffeemakers, I had to microwave the freshly-brewed coffee to heat it up and keep it hot, but NOT with this one. Only thing I'd change about this model is I'd like a slightly longer power cord--even if just a few inches longer. But if your outlet is fairly close, you might even prefer not having excess cord. Overall, this is a terrific coffee maker and I am really pleased with this purchase.

Makes good, hot coffee, easy to use. Takes paper filters if desired. Hotplate has three settings and I have found on #2, it keeps coffee hot without the burned taste. A minor carp is that in order to see the water level when filling, you have to peer down from the top which is a pain if the coffeemaker is on a counter under a cabinet

Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker, Black and Stainless Steel
This one keeps it simple and hot. The brewing temperature seems hotter than most coffeemakers, it brews clean (not a bunch of coffee grinds in the resevoir or filter ares), and it stays hot without tasting burnt (I shut off after 1 hour). It would be nice if the filter area was larger: if you use paper filter to soak up oil in coffee grinds and fill it up, the thing can overflow some grinds into carafe. Otherwise a good choice for the price.
Makes the Best Tasting Coffee - Review written on October 31, 2008

This is the fourth coffeemaker we have tried in the past year. We originally had a Bunn, then a Cuisinart Grind and Brew and then a Melitta. All, except for the Cuisinart Grind and Brew, made coffee with a bitter taste. We loved the coffee by the Cuisinart Grind and Brew, but within a few months it stopped operating. The same thing happened to my daughter's machine. She bought another Cuisinart Grind and Brew because they loved the flavor of the coffee. We decided to purchase this Cuisinart without the grinder since that is what broke on both machines. I am so happy to have purchased this one after trying two other brands. Not only are we back to enjoying our coffee, but this machine is a lot less complicated and time consuming when making coffee and I also like having the 1-4 cup choice. It also takes up less counter space and looks attractive in the black matte finish.

Coffee has great flavor from this pot. (It could also be the variety, & grinding it in a burr mill too.) Water is easier to add than I thought it would be and I like the carafe temperature control. I have not yet cleaned it but think the self clean will be a great feature.

I received this coffee maker as a gift a few years ago, and it is still going strong daily - like I like my coffee!

The unit is of an appreciable build quality that's uncommon these days. It is sturdy and stable enough to not be knocked around by other appliances competing for counter space, the finishes do not wear out over time, and it has remained fully functional over all the abuses I have given it over the years.

The only faults I can assign are the carafe, whose lid can only be 'snapped' on and off for fast/easy pouring (I miss the $10 Mr. Coffee model's fliptop lid), and the somewhat awkward and small reservoir filling location.

I say awkward, because as other reviews here have noted the unit itself is somewhat tall. When located on a relatively high countertop, it can be a real strain to pour the last bit of water out of the carafe into the top of the unit. Again, this may have be partially resolved by a carafe with straight sides, or some other design making it easier to pour.

I really can't fault this unit's function however. It has consistently made pot after pot of quality drip coffee time and again. If you have the opportunity, I would simply recommend trying out the motions of disassembling the carafe lid and to go through the motions of filling the reservoir using the carafe before plunking your own money down.

As a gift, rest assured you will make your target quite happy if they're in need of a nice, well built performance drip coffee maker.

This coffeemaker is somewhat different from the old Krups model that it replaced. Since the fill location is at the rear, to the right, and is smaller than I was used to, I had to make some accomdations. I am left-handed and what works for me is to use a somewhat narrow one-pint pitcher to do the filling instead of the coffee pot. This - my right hand can handle. In my opinion, using the paper filter prodouces better results, with zero sediment, than the gold filter. I put the paper filter into a container slightly larger than it when I am ready to transfer the beans from the grinder; then I put the filter into the coffee maker. Using this method avoids spilling any of the coffee down into the coffee maker. This might sound complicated but I don't mind. It works for me to produce the wonderful coffee that this unit is capable of. I really like the programmable feature and use it when I know I have to leave early in the morning. Having three temperature choices for the heating plate is a real plus! One more thing: I like the looks of this Cuisinart!

I had been buying cheap coffee makers at the drug store for years and was sick of them breaking/falling apart and just quitting after a couple of years. I looked at Consumer Report reviews and Amazon reviews and bought this Cuisinart. One of my requirements is "Can I buy a replacement carafe"? Yep I sure could plus the filters, so I bought them and the coffee maker in white with chrome. It makes the smoothest coffee I have ever had at home; absolutely delicious. The gold filter plus the water filter makes a huge difference. It's quiet, can stay warm for 2 hours and can be programmable. You also can adjust the setting on the warming plate. When it turns off it makes a gentle beeping sound to tell you. It's handsome, easy to clean, easy to use. We are thoroughly happy with it and the price point. It got 4 stars instead of 5 because you have to buy extra filters.

I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I do recognize good tools, and this is a really good tool. It's intuitive enough to be used without ever opening the instructions. Everything is just that straight forward. The multi level heating platform is fantastic, and it makes one helluva great and HOT cup of coffee.

We bought this a year ago because it looked nice and Cuisinart seemed like a solid brand. The first one we got stopped working after a few days -- the water wouldn't go through and it made lots of steam but no coffee. We figured that was an exception, got another one that worked normally for a year, then broke down just like the first one. In addition the machine doesn't hold enough coffee grounds to make a large pot of strong coffee, and a normal load of grounds tends to jam the holes in the bottom of the lid. Plus, it's hard to pour the water into the narrow little opening on the side. Poorly designed and poorly engineered.

And in addition, don't get the matching coffee grinder. That broke after less than a year -- the blade literally broke off.

The Cuisinart DCC 1200 makes a tasty hot pot of coffee. From the first to the last cup the temperature and taste are consistent. I really like the variable temperature for the hot plate portion of this maker, but the temperature of the pot of coffee is not dependent on sitting and cooking- that very first cup of coffee comes out nice and HOT. I've yet to find a coffee pot that brews hot enough coffee, this one absolutely does. It's also got quite the retro style to it with toggle switches instead of push buttons. My search for the perfect coffee pot is over, thanks Cuisinart!

I bought the Cusinart DCC-120 because of great reviews, but my experience has been less than positive. It makes good coffee, but not piping hot. It leaks water as you're trying to put the water in the holding tank and the tank is inconvenient to fill especially if you are in a wheelchair and can't see in the top. The coffee carafe is a nice except for the lid which snaps on and off and if it isn't placed just right doesn't stay on. I wish I had never bought this machine and bought the electric Bodum Santos, even with the fact that the pot wears out in a year or two, it is a much better maker for anyone with handicaps! And the COFFEE IS GOOD & HOT!

There are lots of reviews for this coffee maker, which include all the pros and cons. However, the bottom line, so as not to repeat, is that this is an excellent coffeemaker and has some pretty nifty features like a charcoal water filter and a "self-clean" cycle.

Have had the new coffee maker for 2 months. Much better than the Mr Coffee makers I had the 2 previous times. Both gave out and I wanted one the was good. Read the reviews on the different coffee makers and Cuisinart seemed to be the best. One review stated it was much better to invest a little bit more and get a lot much more than those $30 coffee makers. That person was right!
