The soundtrack to the wonderful movie "Love Actually" is wonderful as stand alone music. Very well recorded and with nice soundstage for the genre, this is enjoyable music that is easy to listen to and presents a broad range of styles. Well worth owning.

If you haven't had the chance to see this delightful, heart-felt Christmas comedy, you've missed a milestone in romantic story-telling! This is a wonderful (albeit British) romance, set in a yuletide atmosphere. As more Americans actually see this film, it will eventually become a modern-day Christmas tradition. Enjoy! Love actually is all around you! js P.S. The above review relates to the film. The soundtrack sets you reminiscing about the romantic scenes in the film!

I've watched the film several times (I can watch it over and over again) and was so drawn to the music that I decided I had to have the cd. This then lead me to purchasing a Dido , The Calling and Maroon 5 cd...all of whom I was not that familiar with. I think this is a fun collection of music.....and I now have other new music that I actually love....it's actually true.

Not only was Love Actually a great heartfelt feel good movie, but the soundtrack is also great! It made a great Christmas gift for some family members and they all appreciated it. Songs from Joanie Mitchell, Kelly Clarkson and others, are all great.

I should have heeded the advice of your other reviewers. This CD didn't seem to represent the soundtrack at all. The music in the movie was much better. Very disappointing

This review is for the American CD. I loved the movie and after viewing it for the first time immediately watched it again. I read on this site that some listeners were disappointed with the soundtrack, but I couldn't resist purchasing it anyway because I couldn't live without the Billy Mack song. Given the subject of the movie, I will call the CD a "heartbreaking" disappointment. The three Christmas songs are included here, but are listed as "bonus tracks," which indicates that the director of the movie didn't understand what the audience wanted from the soundtrack. "All I want for Christmas is You" and most especially Billy Mack's song "Christmas is all around us" are not just seasonal holiday songs within the context of this movie--they are the ultimate love songs. Everyone in the movie was great, but can there be many viewers who didn't feel Billy Mack was the center of the story? Yes, little kids with crushes, a widowed man who apparently finds another love quite quickly (Claudia Schiffer to boot), and young couples getting together are all very sweet. But the heartbreak of unrequited love, a married woman who realizes her husband is thinking about another woman and Billy Mack save the movie from being just too cute. Billy Mack was a mid-fifties, superficial, "ex heroin addict struggling for a comeback at any price" who figures out what love is and shares it with another human being, albeit not in a romantic relationship. Billy Mack (along with the unreturned love story line and the Emma Thompson story) lifted the movie out of the realm of cliches. The movie starts with Billy Mack and his song, which underscores the struggle for love that everyone in the movie is going through. But the song was gutted of its joy in the soundtrack version--very little use of the backup singers. Instead of including tracks that I don't think were even in the movie, this song should have been played at length, perhaps in two versions. The beginning of the movie with the song and the conversational interjections would have been a creative addition to the soundtrack. Another song gutted of its joy is "All you need is love"--the surprising and lovely orchestration in the movie was replaced with trite clapping on the soundtrack. At least the director couldn't mess with the Beach Boys and Joni, whose song underscored the tale of marital infidelity. But if you want to experience the joy of human beings taking the risk of "getting the s*** kicked out of us by love," watch the movie again. Don't waste your money on the soundtrack. When will directors figure out that audiences want the sound tracks just as they were in the movie?

Kind of disappointing as the movie is so good and the music just seems to rock in the movie. There are a couple of songs on the soundtrack that I don't remember hearing in the movies and you're kind of like "what the heck is this?". And there are a couple of songs that I do remember from the movie that aren't in the soundtrack like that song Bye, Bye Baby by the Bay City Rollers (I think that's the name).

It's definately more of a chick type of CD.
Great movie.. - Review written on March 06, 2007

So i purchased the album to one of our favorite movies of all time, and I must say I was a little dissapointed.. Maybe I was just over excited about getting the cd, that I built myself up for dissapointment. First, while all the songs that were in the movie were on the cd, I had my heart set on hearing "All You Need is Love". In the version on the movie, you hear the trumpets, the guitar, and the flutes at key points in the song.. However, the recoring sounded awful! Very faintly in the background do you hear these instruments, and the "keyboard beats" are horrible.. Otis Redding is amazing, as is Joni Mitchell. Olivia Olsen made me forget about Mariah Carey (not a fan). She has an incredible voice!

All in all, I did like the cd, and I do recommend it, but beware! A couple of the songs have been recorded badly..

I love the movie and the soundtrack, but this CD compilation is an overall disappointment. Two of the songs that were core to the movie -- the comeback Xmas song by the aging rock star, and the song sung by the 12-year-old love interest during the school musical -- are here as "bonus" tracks, and the recordings are absolutely horrible!! The young girl (Olivia Olson) is such an exciting surprise talent in the film but her song on the CD sounds like it was recorded in a tin can. And the comeback Xmas song doesn't even sound like the same song or that it's even sung by the same artist (Billy Mack). What a bummer!!! On the plus side, "Songbird" by Eva Cassidy is worth the price of the CD, and it's nice to hear an older and wiser Joni Mitchell singing her seminal "Both Sides Now" so many years later.

NOT THE MOVIE SOUNDTRACK SORRY TO SAY - Review written on January 23, 2007

Rating: 3 out of 5

THIS IS NOT THE MOVIE SOUNDTRACK I'M SORRY TO SAY & SAD TO REPORT.

You will be disappointed if you buy this thinking the song arrangements are the same as they are presented in the movie. WHICH IS GREAT BY THE WAY.

Jump & All you need is Love & Christmas is all around (although close is not the same).

By far the best song on the CD is sung by Olivia Olson, and is better than mariah carey, and nearly as good as the DVD version.

This soundtrack is a wonderful way to re-experience scenes in the movie (and isn't that exactly why you wanted it?). It will cause you to smile all over again & everything is on it!

(P.S.: did you know that a few of the recording artists recorded this film's soundtrack LIVE for the film? This is just one of the several fun facts provided in the jacket information. Enjoy!)

the soundtrack makes you re-live the moments of the movie. It has a wonderful variety of artist from kelly clarkson to wyclef jean, some new lyrics and some are cover songs for example from the greatest band of the 60's-The Beatles.
It's a very enjoyable album.
I hope you all enjoy it, as much as I do.

I am very happy with my purchase.
I've long liked the soundtrack of Love Actually, but never ventured to buy it. I recently saw it again and the scene with Joni Mitchell "both sides now" sealed the deal. All the songs are good, even the Christmas ones. You will not suffer buyer's remorse with this one.
Dido Steals The Show! - Review written on August 04, 2006

Much more than a typical romance soundtrack, the soundtrack is equally balanced. Having non-Christmas songs and Christmas songs, this soundtrack also has some happy songs and sad songs. My favorites being Here With Me performed By Dido and I'll See It Through performed by Texas. The soundtrack is highly recommended. Dido steals the show with Here With Me, a beautiful and intelligant song that has a meaning.

1. Kelly Clarkson - The Trouble With Love Is 4/5
2. Dido - Here With Me 5/5
3. Maroon 5 - Sweetest Goodbye/Sunday Morning 4/5

7. The Calling - Wherever You Will Go 5/5
8. The Pointer Sisters - Jump (For My Love) 3/5

This is one of those sound tracks that holds it's own with or without the movie. Mood changes and sing-a-longs included. The kind of CD you'll want to keep in your car for long drives that will keep you from getting bored or tired along the way.
