Cordless outdoor electric broom - Review written on November 05, 2008

Rating: 4 out of 5

Black & Decker has made a good cordless leaf and light debris blower. The battery lasts about 15 minutes if charged a full 9 hours, which is just enough for my outdoor needs. The blower is light and easy to handle, with enough power for small quantities of tree material. The product arrived promptly and in good shape. It works best on driveways and sidewalks.
B&D Cordless Blower excellent - Review written on October 24, 2008

Had already bought the newer 18v cordless B&D weed trimmer (had an older model with lesser voltage battery and much bigger battery) and it works great, so thought I'd try the cordless blower. I have a corded model that works well, but, as we all know the power cord is real pain.

Cordless blower very powerful for what I need it for - blowing leaves and grass around the yard to corral for lawnmower pick-up. Having the extra 18v from the weed trimmer helps as the blower seems to use the battery power quicker than the weed trimmer.

I just hope these batteries last better than the older version ones as they say these can stay pugged in to keep their power without affecting performance.

Even with the potential for battery issues (just make sure you've always got a fresh one or two) I highly recommend both B&D pieces and may now look to buy the cordless hedge trimmer.

The Blower That Gets Used! - Review written on October 17, 2008

Ok, this is not the most powerful leaf blower in the world but it is the one that I use most often. It is so convenient to grab and use! 90% of the time, it is all the power that I need to do the job ! I am keeping my Toro corded blower for the occasional "big job":

Toro Ultra 12 Amp Variable Speed Electric Blower/Vacuum With Metal Impeller #51599

I would recommend the purchase of a rapid charger along with this tool, as the included charger is quite slow:

Black & Decker FSMVC 9.6-Volt to 18-Volt Slide Style Battery Charger

A spare battery pack is also useful:

Black & Decker 18-Volt Cordless Electric Broom Hard Surface Sweeper #NS118
We have been needing this for a long time. It eliminates the need to drag a 50 foot extension cord around the front and back yards whenever we want to pile up leaves. The force of the blower motor is fine and the 18 volt battery provides plenty of juice to keep it going until the job is done. The weight, even with the battery attatched, is not not enough to present problems for us. The price is right. The battery, charger, and two year warranty is included in the deal.
It's just okay - Review written on October 03, 2008

This cordelss blower is just okay. Nothing great. It comes with only one battery so I purchased a back up at Home Depot. The battery makes this unit heavier than my previous one (which unfortunately was discontinued) and it only lasts a good 10 minutes. It is fine for blowing my patio and deck but that's about it. Would not buy again.
Get it only if 2 batteries are included. - Review written on October 01, 2008

Rating: 3 out of 5

This product used to include 2 batteries. But, B&D has dropped it down to 1. The cost of each battery is around $30 to $35. I found the last one in my local Lowes store that still has 2 batteries. The blowing capability is low, but sufficient for hard surface. The blowing duration with a fresh charged battery is around 15 mins. It's convenient for quick job. I drop 1 point due to its limited power, I drop 1 more point because the included battery is dropped from 2 to 1.
Great for Quick Clean-up - Review written on September 30, 2008

This product is perfect for frequent light "sweeping". It removes leaves, grass, twigs etc. from any hard surface. I have a long driveway, sidewalk, front porch, and large deck and am able to clean all of these without the battery slowing down (it takes me about 15 minutes to do all of that). According to the instructions, the battery will not "over charge", so when I'm not using the blower I leave the batter in the charger so it is always ready. I had been using a much larger, heavier, and noisier corded blower (which would still be better for blowing leaves on the lawn) but it is such a pain to mess around with a cord long enough to do reach all areas. This little guy is light, quiet, and has no boundaries. I couldn't be more pleased!
Reasonable Power for a Battery - Review written on September 24, 2008

Rating: 4 out of 5

I purchased this unit because I wanted a blower but I did not want the noise or pollution of a gas powered unit. The Black & Decker 18-Volt Cordless Electric Broom works well for a portable, compact, battery powered unit. I use it for blowing debris off the driveway and sidewalk after mowing the yard. It is lightweight and quiet compared to the gas powered units (but of course it is not as powerful.) I live on a corner lot and the battery lasts long enough to do the driveway and sidewalk. I would sacrifice weight and size for more power and a longer lasting charge.

This elecric broom does exactly what I bought it for. To clean the walkway, porch and garage. I'm satisfied. I would have given it 5 stars if it was a little more powerful and the battery lasted longer but I'm still happy with the product. If you are looking for a blower to move leaves off the lawn you need a much more powerful blower. I have a Toro corded blower that works great.

While I would recommend waiting for this to be on sale or finding the lowest retail price before purchasing , this unit does a very nice job. It's not real strong and the battery doesn't last too long but it's great because it starts right up (unlike the more powerful gasoline pull start blowers) and is very light and easy to handle. I very much enjoy using this product. An extra battery means you'll be able to do longer jobs.

Lightweight, relatively quiet, and does a good job of sweeping the concrete porch and patio without the drips, smell, and "leaf tornado" effect of our more powerful 2 cycle gas blower. As advertised, not very effective on leaves clinging to grass, flower beds, and other uneven surfaces. Beware: Many reviews indicate the unit comes with two batteries - B&D has apparently downsized packaging and value to only one.

This is a lightweight blower that I gave my mother for her birthday. She is delighted with it because she can easily use it without straining. It is not nearly as powerful as a gas leaf-blower but for driveways, patios, etc. it is perfect. After seeing hers I want one of my one! It holds a charge long enough for her to do her drive, large patio, 3 pathways, front porch, etc. without slowing down.

Great for light pick up by the pool/sidewalks - I love not having a cord. A bit much to ask of the machine after Hurricane Gustav but it did help clear leaves into a large pile for pick up. I would recommend this with extra batteries.

Love this lightweight blower! It is so lightweight that even my 4 year old can use it. In fact, my kids all fight over who gets to blow off the back patio, or the sidewalks after I mow. I had purchased the Black & Decker Grasshog back in the Spring and have been very satisfied with it. If you have a small yard, are a woman who has to do your own yard work, or have kids who like to help in the yard these items are perfect! They are lightweight, easy to use, and get the job done! Thanks Black & Decker!!!

Well, I bought this for my wife (I have a 2stroke gasoline blower, but she wanted something she could use). She is very pleased -> Hence, I am very pleased (when Mamma's not happy, nobody is happy). I was disappointed that they no longer are pkged with 2 batteries, but spousal unit reports that the charge of one battery is just about right for her. With only a couple of months use, it's too early to report on durability. However, the alternative was the Ryobi (at HomeDepot) -a good looking unit, priced less than this, but with NO batteries. AH, that's the rub, the battery and charger are more than the cost of the B&D broom, charger, and battery.

So, if you're looking for a lightweight broom (not the power of a corded or gasoline blower, but my wife is happy), this is probably the best way to go.

Buyers beware! I have purchased two of these units previously and they came with two batteries. Black & Decker recently decided to delete one of the batteries from the unit and raise the price by about 5 bucks. It now comes with ONLY ONE BATTERY and it really needs two. Quite sneaky if you ask me. Some of the reviews here indicate the unit comes with two batteries. They are old reviews so buyers beware. The replacement batteries are quite expensive, do not last very long, and cost more than half the price of the unit. That's just silly. I would not buy this unit again.

I found that this blower does just as advertised, it's a broom and that is what I wanted. At the end of mowing the lawn this blower cleans the grass clippings off the sidewalk and driveway for a neat looking job. The battery lasts for the work needed done, which I use for two yards on one battery. The battery will give you plenty of life if charged up just before use. I plug it in the night before and leave it until the next morning. Have also used the same battery with the weed trimmer and then put it in the blower.
If you want to blow a large amount of leaves into a pile and expect it to act like a motor driven blower, then you will be disapointed, but if you just want to clean up the grass clippings without carrying around the heavy motor driven blower, this little blower does the job.

I absolutely love this blower. I can clean all the leaves and debris from around my house and the driveway on just one battery. It came with 2 batteries but so far I've only needed 1. It's extremely lightweight so you don't get tired. After using this we bought the 8" chain saw and 8" pole chain saw (bare) without batteries because we could use the ones that came with the blower. This is a very well designed series
Excellent for sweeping my driveway - Review written on July 28, 2008

Rating: 5 out of 5

I bought the B&D cordless broom two months ago and it has saved me much time in sweeping my driveway. Using a regular broom was such a pain! Now I complete the task in a quarter of the time - and it does a better job. Note that this is the first time I've used a blower.

The blower is very light and very easy to use. No extention cords or gas is needed. I just insert the battery.

My driveway is about 50' by 15', and I have trees constantly dropping leaves. So it takes some time to gather the small leaves.
The only negative is that the battery lasts just long enough to sweep my driveway. If you need to sweep a larger area, I would recommend buying a second battery (which I have done).

I would highly recommend this product!

I just got my cordless broom tonight in the mail. I also own the Black and Decker cordless electric trimmer which came with two batteries that also fit this item. So I was up and running in a few seconds after unpacking. I didn't have big expectations for this after reading the reviews, but I've been so satisfied with my other Black and Decker cordless products, I decided to give it a try. I have two huge evergreens near the side of my house which leave a lot of needles and other debris on my porch. Of course, I could sweep (which I do about five times a season), but that means moving all the big pots, my grill, tables, etc to get in between. This blows sweeping away! So right off the start, I know I've gotten my money's worth. Next, I'll be cleaning the leaves out of my garage that accumulate there every year. Man, I love B&D cordless products - I first started with a cordless electric lawn mower about ten years ago, and it's still going!! Thank you B&D...and if you ever need a poster child for your products, I'm your woman!
The Battery/Charger is the Achilles Heel - Review written on July 17, 2008

I purchased the B&D Cordless Electric Broom after having great experience with the B&D Grass Hog 18V cordless String Trimmer. The latter has performed very well but the former has greatly disappointed.

The B&D Electric Broom, as a very light duty broom replacement, is marginally adequete when brand new, with a new, fully charged battery. Unfortunately, the honeymoon period is very short. A very noticeable decline in usable runtime inspite of carefully following the typical NiCd, full discharge before charging, regimen. In a few months time of fairly infrequent use and, despite doing everything possible to maximize battery life, the battery's performance declines to a point of needing replacement. Given the marginal "broom" performance and the cost/life cycle of replacement batteries, it is very hard to justify a continued relationship with something I typically only use to blow out the garage with.

I begrudgingly give the B&D Cordless Broom a two star rating only because it's not the absolutely worst product I've ever had BUT BEWARE of the issues I've included in this review and know up front that while it will blow out birthday candles it can't be seen as an alternative to a regular corded or gas powered blower. I use my Toro Ultra for any serious blowing and have had great luck with past Toro Blowers over many years as well.
Love this freaking thing but batteries don't last - Review written on July 15, 2008

I bought this just under 2 years ago. It came with charger and 2 batteries.. It usually takes both batteries power to finish up whatever i'm doing.. I use this literally every day in my house! I have all tile floors and 5 cats. Cats tails are like dust mops, they bring in every small stick, leaf and every thing else and deposit it across the floor. One fo the first things I do everyday is open the front door and blow out every damn thing they dragged in.

Sadly with time the batteries were lasting less and less time. I charge them every day then store them in a drawer (not the hot garage) butthey've totaly quit charging now. So I'll try to replace the batteries.. I'm not even sure if I need a new charger too... I'm disappointed these batteries wore out so quickly. 'that's too big an expense to replace so often.

As for the blower itself it is very light weight and easy to use.

I always read the reviews to help me make a decision before making a purchase. Many reviews refer to a SECOND battery or EXTRA BATTERY INCLUDED. This unit, however, only came with ONE battery. Broom does a good job for light work. I would have rated item 5 stars had it not been for the missing expected battery.

Just Strong Enough - Review written on June 30, 2008

Rating: 4 out of 5

This blower has the perfect balance of weight and power. As it is my first blower, I have found it to be sufficient for blowing grass clippings off the sidewalk after mowing the lawn. It is lightweight and the battery lasts long enough to service my townhome yard. The battery can also be used in the NST2018 trimmer, which is a plus. It probably would not be strong enough to blow around leaves in the fall.

I owned the predecesssor to this model which was a 12 volt rechargable which hung on the wall in its recharger. the plastic impeller came apart (bad plastic or design) and tried to buy the part. I couldn't do it so I bought this 18 volt cordless model. it has considerably less power than the 12 volt, which had a battery about twice the size of the 18.volt. I will grant it is a benefit that the 18 volt has a removable battery so I can change batteries when one runs down but even when the battery is fresh, it does not blow as hard as the old model. Only consider this machine if you have a small area to do and nothing very heavy to blow.
Great For Small Jobs - Review written on June 28, 2008

Rating: 4 out of 5

I bought this to supplement an old "Weed Eater" brand electric blower. The electric blower has two significant problems. First, if anything it's too powerfull. If you aren't carefull, you can blow the debris all over the place simply dispersing your mess over a slightlylarger area rather than cleaning it up. Second, the darn electrical plug falls out of the tool every 90 seconds to two minutes.

For cleaning off the sidewalk or drive after cutting grass the B&D cordless is a champ - powerfull enough to do the job and no need to run 100' of electrical cord.

In terms of power, this unit does not remove wet grass/leaves well, nor do I think it would do anything to snow (whatever that stuff is ;) ) . The battery will last just long enough to do a quick job. But it lasts long enough for my intended purpose.
